August 27/28 was the date for this year's Pista e Piloti event at Pferdsfeld Airfield, located in the back of beyond, some 80km from both Koblenz and Wiesbaden. There are hardly any hotels around there, so you either have to bring a camper or sleep in a tent, which adds to the atmosphere.
We were invited, and it was our first time being there. Since I had never heard about it, I did have no great expectations - boy, was I wrong. There were about 200 teams, lead by a huge pack of Giulia GTs and GTAs, but also exotic cars like Matra, NSU, BMW 328 Roadsters, a Maserati 6CL Monoposto, Renault Alpine A 110, Bugattis and many more.
To my personal dispraise, I had a feeling that I was even slowing the field down a little, due to brittle and slippery tires, or rather lack of talent...
