Recreation of an otherwise unavailable, lost Alfa 6C race car design
Built with all period-correct, original parts
80% finished, all difficult work already done
No expense spared. All work done by reknown specialists
If you are into Alfa Romeo, you will be aware that there were only a handful of Barchetta-style, open race cars produced on the Tipo 256 chassis. There were three different designs, of which the "Siluro" body is regarded as the most beautiful version by most people. All of the cars built shortly before the war have either disappeared or have been destroyed, apart from one example, and there are only relatively crude recreations out there. The original design of these beautiful cars is very difficult to replicate, since there is almost no trim and if you do not get the flowing lines absolutely right, the overall shape loses a lot of its elegance.
This body here is an exect copy of the bodywork of the 1939 ex- Piero Dusio Siluro '915011, which was replicated during the restoration of the latter by Italian experts. You can therefore be sure that the overall shape and also the detailling is correct.
Here is a quick summary of what is finished and what is still to be done.
Finished:
Period correct rolling chassis
Front and rear axle overhauled with all new needle bearings, rear axle changed to longer ratio, just like on the original.
Front dampers and complete braking system
Complete bodywork including fittings, like hood a boot fasteners
New, correct Borrani wire wheels
Large fuel tank (correct for Tipo 256)
Engine fully overhauled by marque expert. Correct "interim" 6C 2500 engine with the large water covers on the sides, three Weber 36 DO setup, correct distributor, period-correct racing manifold etc. Run in on test bench.
Correct stick-shift gearbox, fully overhauled
Correct bucket seats
Still to be done:
Paint
Fitting of the overhauled engine and gearbox
Radiator
Wiring and instruments/gauges (already sourced)
Chrome-plating of the hood fasteners and other small parts
Front screens as desired (different designs on the original cars in period)
Steering wheel
Assembly, testing, registration
If you have a little experience with larger restorations, you will know that it is practically impossible to recreate such a car with all the rare parts for less than 600 T€, not counting VAT and the usual difficulties and mistakes. This here is a project whare all the problems have already been solved and which could be finished for the next season. You could save a considerable amount of money, time and headache while getting the most probably best recreation of a 6C Corsa available. If you do not have the time or expertise to do it yourself, we would be happy to finish the project for you.
